Swatantra Dev Singh was born on 13 February 1964 in Ori village of Jamalpur block of Mirzapur district. His parents were Rama Devi and Allar Singh, who were originally from Sigar village of Jhansi district.
During his college days, Swatantra Dev Singh became involved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
He began his political journey by contesting student union elections at DVC College in Orai, Jalaun. He later joined the RSS as a volunteer (pracharak) in 1986 and then became associated with the ABVP as an organizational minister from 1988-89
1991: Swatantra Dev Singh took charge of the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kanpur.
1994: He made his political debut as the in-charge of the Yuva Morcha (youth wing) in Bundelkhand.
1996: Swatantra Dev Singh was appointed as the General Secretary of Yuva Morcha.
1998: He served again as the General Secretary of BJP State Yuva Morcha.
2001: Swatantra Dev Singh became the state president of BJP's Yuva Morcha.
